The 2nd INTERNATIONAL HACKATHON AT ORT EDUCATIONAL COMPLEX IN KYIV

October 17-19, 2017, the 2nd International Internet of Things Hackathon took place at ORT Educational Complex ¹141 in Kyiv. The event run with the support of Charitable Foundation "Organisation for Educational Resources and Technological Training". 12 teams of schoolchildren and teachers from Kyiv, Odessa, Zaporozhye, Chernivtsi, Chisinau, Dnipro and Skadovsk worked on solving the problem: "Safety in our lives".

Within three days the teams created and presented their unique ideas, built a prototype of the Internet device, which helped to solve the problem and estimated the business component. Three days of tension, debate, reflection and teamwork ...

To build a prototype the teams received equipment kits - Raspberry Pi 3, Arduino UNO, various sensors, materials, tools. During the competition, teams were advised by mentors. The work of students was evaluated by a professional jury:

Bilyk Tetyana (Institute for the Modernization of Educational Content, Methodist for STEM Education), Podkorytov Viktor (Cisco, System Architect), Vovchenko Elizaveta (Educational Program Coordinator, Microsoft), Chebotareva Viktoria (Ciklum, Employer Brand Manager), Bitiev Yaroslav (Hub 4.0, Project Manager of the Gallery of Innovations), Boltenko Anatoly (ARVI Company, Director), Korotkyj Eugene (Associate Professor KPI, Head of the Open Laboratory of Lamp Electronics, Teacher Training Center Melexis in the direction of creating digital circuits), Strutsky Alexey (Innovation Holding Sikorsky Challenge, Director) , Vlasyuk Yuri (Festival Mini Maker Fair), Malyarevich Oles (city council member).

Among the large number of submitted, and, of course, worthy of attention, ideas, jury, nevertheless, chose the best:

1st place: the team "OZBZ", Jewish school ¹41 "ORT", Chernivtsi.

Project: "Safety in unlit areas at pedestrian crossings in the dark of the night"

 

2nd place: the team “Sup-brace”, Educational Complex ¹141 “ORT”, Kyiv.

Project: "Emergency call of security services".

2nd place: the team "Smart T-shirt", Chisinau Technological Lyceum "ORT" named after B.Z.Gerzl, Chisinau.

Project: "Fixing vital signs of health".

 

3rd place: the team "Smart door", Odessa Specialized School ¹94 "ORT" named after V. Zhabotinsky.

The project: "Safe house".

3rd place: "Smoke protection" team, Svyatoshinskiy Center of Creativity, Kyiv.

Project: "Control of the extraction of carbon monoxide during cooking".

 

In addition to the programmable mBot & Littlebits designers, it was a pleasant surprise for the students to receive awards from WO President Mr. Conrad Giles and the member of the Board of Trustees of World ORT, Mr. Robert Grey.
